We tend to believe what we want to believe, whether or not it is true. Or we believe what our identity requires us to believe, despite or even in the face of evidence. Science has transformed the world and the human experience, sometimes for good and sometimes not. It is also a fundamental expression of humanism - the importance of human power, knowledge, and responsibility.
