Wine Group - The Winers
The Wine Group, affectionately known as “The Winers,” meets three or four times per year at a member’s home. Everyone brings a bottle of wine and an appetizer to share. The host decides the theme for the evening. Past themes include “March Madness” tournaments, wine & food pairings, wine & chocolate, and wines from around the world.
The Book Club meets every other month. Any type of book – fiction, biography, autobiography, or short stories – can be selected. Past selections include: A Man Called Ove, The Rosie Project, Once We Were Brothers, Roses, Me Before You,The Sweetness of Forgetting, Orphan Train
, and the Spertus Institute’s
“One Book One Community” selection of A Backpack, a Bear and Eight Crates of Vodka
The Kol Hadash Knitters gathers three or four times per year to knit and share advice on projects, techniques and supplies. They also do service projects, such as the afghan shown here, which was donated to A Safe Place
. Knitting expertise is NOT required!
The Movie Group meets three or four times a year to watch and discuss a movie. Past movie selections have included A Matter of Size (Israeli), The Visitor, Hava Nagila (documentary on the song), Her, Fantasia at Ravinia, Ballad of the Weeping Spring (Israeli), and The Farewell Party (Israeli).
The Theatre Club attends two or three professional theatre events per year in Chicago and the suburbs. Past productions include: Follies at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Race at the Goodman Theater, Metamorphoses at Lookingglass Theater, The Book of Joseph at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, War Paint at Goodman Theatre, The Curious Case of the Watson Intelligence at Theater Wit, and Whipping Man at Northlight Theater.
