Purim

Each year our Sunday School students create our own Illustrated Megillah (“scroll" in Hebrew). Each class, from first grade through confirmation, decorates one page of the megillah, and the whole megillah is rolled out during the rabbi’s telling of the Purim story. Our school Purim service is followed by a festive Purim carnival with costumes, games and food!

We also hold a “Purim for Adults Only” service in which we discuss the subversive humor, drinking, sex and violence in the Scroll of Esther and its later commentaries and influence. No one under Chai (18) admitted!
