Becoming a member of Kol Hadash is easy!
Membership in the congregation is required in order to register a child in Sunday School. See our Youth Education Fees.
Our unique and innovative membership model consists of the following membership categories:
- Supporting Membership (our standard membership): $2,350
- Single Supporting Membership: $1,175
Contributing Membership: SELF SELECTED COMMITMENT
Yes, you read that correctly. Contributing Members choose their annual financial commitment. Contributing Members are full members: High Holidays, life cycle events with our wonderful Rabbi Chalom, member discounts to events, everything (including access to our Youth Education program, which has its own fees). Contributing Members may continue to choose their level of support for as long as they like, reflecting—we hope—a deepening connection and engagement over time. See our Guidance for Contributing Members.
If this would be your first year and you are looking for a “trial membership” to see if we are a good fit, we suggest a minimum pledge of $365 ($1 per day). We would love to welcome you!
WHY SO FLEXIBLE?
We have come to recognize that traditional synagogue models of paying set membership dues may be unappealing to younger people, unfamiliar to non-Jewish partners of inter-married couples, and deter people from joining if they believe they won’t participate in enough activities to justify standard dues or are uncomfortable asking to pay less. Our goal is to eliminate that barrier – to encourage people to participate and explore our warm and welcoming congregation in their own way.
Clearly, we need financial support for the congregation to continue to survive. We hope that Kol Hadash enhances the lives of all of our members, and as it does, our members will choose to increase their financial support commensurate with their financial ability and sense of value.
We have always said that money should not matter in finding a meaningful connection, and this is another example of how we “say what we mean and mean what we say.”
Our rabbi, Adam Chalom (847-383-5184, rabbi@KolHadash.com), would be happy to talk with you in person, by email or phone, or you can contact our Membership Chair, Sheila Sebor, at membership@KolHadash.com.
