Every summer, Kol Hadash members of all ages gather on the lawn at Ravinia Festival for a concert, BYO picnic, and pot luck dessert. Events have included classical music concerts and movie showings on the lawn screen.
Bonfire Sing-a-Long and Pot Luck Dinner
This family-friendly event is held on a Saturday evening in the spring at the beautiful Heller Nature Center in Highland Park. The evening begins with a pot luck dinner (inside) and then, as the sun is setting, singing around the bonfire (outside).
The Progressive Dinner
This adult event is a unique and fun way to spend a Saturday evening in the fall. Everyone gathers at one member’s home for appetizers and wine, then we split into small groups for catered dinners. Everyone reunites at another member’s home for coffee and dessert. Past Progressive Dinner themes have included A Taste of Italy, The Beatles, It’s Greek to Me, and TV Sitcoms.
Kol Hadash plans other outstanding social events, most recently, a festive private concert by the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band.
Past events have included a sing-a-long (with props!) screening of Fiddler on the Roof, outings to the Capital Steps comedy shows, a Mitzvah party to celebrate Kol Hadash’s 13th birthday, and a celebration to honor the 50th anniversary of Rabbi Emeritus Daniel Friedman’s ordination.
