Adult Education

At Kol Hadash, the goal of adult education is to help our members be well-rounded people, rooted in Jewish identity but open to the world around us. This is why our curriculum is not limited to Judaism. Philosophy, comparative religion, current events, literature, and science round out our regular and occasional offerings.

Kol Hadash serves a range of adult learners, from dabblers to diligent students.  Rabbi Chalom leads a variety of learning options each year.

Jewish Culture They Didn't Teach in Sunday School

Join us for an introduction to Jewish Culture taught by Rabbi Adam Chalom. Classes are held on select Tuesday evenings, 7:30-8:30 PM at the North Shore Unitarian Church. Everyone is welcome to jump in and attend any class or all of them. There is no charge for classes, and the general public is very welcome to attend.

Sunday Morning Adult Education

Learning never ends! Drop in for stimulating conversation led by Rabbi Chalom on a variety of topics through the year: history, philosophy, culture, and current events. Everyone is welcome with no charge, whether you have school-age children or not.

Sefer Circle

Jews are often described as “The People of the Book,” though with our love of reading and writing perhaps it should be “People of the Books!” Our Sefer Circle [sefer is Hebrew for “book”] alternates meeting months with our Book Club, and Rabbi Chalom leads our discussions. Past books have included the Tevye the Milkman stories by Sholem Aleichem (basis for Fiddler on the Roof), Night by Elie Wiesel, and The Imperial Wife by Irina Reyn. All are welcome, no charge, and you don’t even have to have read the book!
