Herb Silverman is founder and president emeritus of the Secular Coalition for America, and also Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the College of Charleston. In 1990, Herb ran for governor of South Carolina to challenge the state’s constitutional provision that prohibited atheists from holding public office. After an eight-year legal battle, Herb won a unanimous decision in South Carolina’s Supreme Court, nullifying the state’s religious test requirement to hold public office.
Join us for a special Shabbat discussion with Herb Silverman on his experiences: “Candidate Without a Prayer: the Autobiography of a Jewish Atheist in the Bible Belt.” Herb is a lively and entertaining speaker – don’t miss him!
You can help support our guest speaker’s appearance and have dinner with Herb Silverman! With a donation of $75 per person, KH members can attend dinner with Herb at Max & Benny’s in Northbrook at 5:45 PM on Friday, October 26. Watch your weekly email for RSVP information.
